Education Code section 39807.5*fn1 authorizes school districts to charge nonindigent parents and guardians a portion of the cost of transporting their children to school. We decided in Arcadia Unified School Dist. v. State Dept. of Education (1992) 2 Cal. 4th 251, 825 P.2d 438 (Arcadia) that section 39807.5 is capable of being applied without violating the state Constitution's free school (art. IX, § 5) or equal protection (art. I, § 7(a)) clauses. (Arcadia, supra, 2 Cal. 4th at p. 267.)
